Secretary Duncan,
Why do you relentlessly support charter schools and merit pay when evidence shows that they do not improve student performance? Why do you support high stakes testing instead of quality education? Why, after a decade and a half of mayoral control of schools in Chicago, are they going through another round of “reform?” Why have teachers reached the breaking point in Chicago and are threatening to strike against your successor’s policies? Is this any way to run a school system? Why do you demonize teachers and unions instead of attacking the teaching of creationism in schools that receive vouchers from Louisiana? Why are charters allowed to have significantly fewer numbers of ELL, disability, and school lunch eligible students than their public school counterparts? Why is test prep instead of learning taking over in our schools? Please respond. Thank you.
